Creating An Org Chart in Finicast

Sometimes, while modeling, you might want to view your team as an org chart.  But unless you have access to an HR or workflow software with built-in org chart capabilities, there really isn’t a quick solution for you.  You will end up spending a lot of time manually recreating it using org chart software.

Finicast has a built-in ability to toggle between table view and hierarchy view.  That means your headcount list in a spreadsheet or CSV can easily be viewed as an org chart in a few simple clicks.

For example, here is your sales team in a table format:

If you want to view it as an org chart, you can go to the right sidebar, find “View Settings” and change “View Component As” from Table to Hierarchy.

Then scrolling down in the right sidebar, you will see “Hierarchy Setting.” Inside, you can select “Child Field,” then“Parent Field” and finally“ Body Fields.”  For this example, I selected the “ID” in the Child Field, “Manager” in the Parent Field and “Name” in the Body Field.  Note these are all drop down auto-populated based on the column header of your table.  Lastly, you can check the info you want to display for each person on the org chart under “Select Body Fields.”  I selected “Name,” “Territory,” and “Position.”

When you are done selecting, then Voila!  You have an org chart!  You can click on individual cards to expand or collapse the child branches.  You can even update the info within each field and it will update across all your models linked to this table!  Lastly, the org chart automatically updates as you add or delete members of the team.

With Finicast, org charts in hierarchy view are simple and fast, regardless of whether you have a team of 20 or 200.  It gives you an integrative visual dimension to modeling that is intuitive, modern, and difficult to find elsewhere in the market.
